As shown in the figure, the Chinese abacus contains tow region in the wooden frame. They are the heaven on the upper and the earth on the lower region. There are two beads on each wire of the heaven and five beads on the earth. They considered to have a value of five for a bead on the heaven and for a single bead on the earth they considered the value of one.
Calculation are done by sliding the beads up and down towards the beam as shown in the abacus. In the abacus, you can see a beam which divides the regions called the heaven and the earth. the bead has a numerical value only when it is close to the beam.
